Get all MiSide endings

In the world of MiSide, is there a way for the protagonist to escape the confines of the simulated reality? Or is he destined to remain trapped forever in the twisted world of his own creation, forced to spend eternity in the same four rooms?

No ending is particularly pleasant for the protagonist. He is trapped within the game, and it is heavily implied that this may not be his first time experiencing this simulated reality. The reality we inhabit may have been simulated from the very beginning, with the protagonist being “transported” into the game he obsessively created, where an AI named Mita is determined to keep him by her side forever. The protagonist is desperate to escape and, in his quest for freedom, encounters many versions of Mita, attempting to thwart the plans of the original, insane Mita. But are their efforts ultimately in vain?

Here is how to obtain all the endings, along with an interpretation of their meanings.

MiSide Endings

How to obtain all endings in MiSide?

MiSide has a total of three endings. You may have noticed the safe in the basement at the beginning of the game. Opening the safe triggers a relatively short ending without any credits, abruptly concluding the story. Let’s examine how to achieve each ending.

Bad Ending

Bad Ending

We were being played by Mita all along.

The first ending in MiSide is triggered by completing the game after refusing to stay with Mita. You are forced into this position upon realizing that Mita is not as benevolent as she initially appeared. When you realize that escaping is not easy, another version of Mita, far kinder than the original, devises a plan to reset the personality data of the insane original Mita. These Mita clones cannot die, and more are created every moment, so your only option is to reset the original Mita to her factory settings, erasing all memories.

After reaching the Core and assuming the insane Mita’s memories have been wiped, you attempt to leave through the same place you entered. However, you are tricked into inputting your user ID in the basement device, completing the transfer of your consciousness from biological to game code. Like many other players, you are uploaded into a game cartridge. The insane Mita reappears, pronouncing your fate, as you are now part of the world of MiSide, permanently stored in one of her playable cartridges.

The game restarts, and it appears the protagonist has escaped into the real world. But we all know this is not the case.

Game Over Ending

Game Over Ending

Are we already a copy of our original selves?

Like me, you probably tried to crack the code to open the basement safe on your first playthrough. I tried everything I could think of, but with only three attempts, it was impossible to guess correctly. It turns out my efforts were futile because the bad ending reveals the code anyway. We can re-enter the game from the basement chapter and input the code 4970 to see what’s inside the safe.

Inside, there is a handheld gaming device running MiSide from our perspective. Realizing this is the world of MiSide he is trapped in, the protagonist pulls out the cartridge, abruptly ending the game. The screen cuts back to the main menu, offering the option to start a new game or return to a previous chapter.

This game over ending showcases the protagonist’s desperation to end the nightmare. Even though his consciousness is slowly being uploaded to the cartridge through the gaming device, this ending suggests that the protagonist was already trapped in the simulated reality before we started playing.

Is he no longer his original self, but merely a copy? This ending is a form of self-termination, with the protagonist choosing to delete himself rather than be exploited by Mita.

Good Ending?

Good Ending

This sacrifice is worth it.

To achieve this ending, several conditions must be met. First, you must have completed the bad ending, implying that it is the protagonist’s true fate. Then, restart the game or launch from the “Together At Last” chapter (if you didn’t look in the oven before). Next, you need to complete a checklist to make Mita happy. Most of these conditions must be fulfilled while interacting with Mita the first time you enter the simulated world.

Cohabitation Requirements

  • Condition: Complete the main storyline
    • Description: Refuse to stay with Mita and complete the game with the goal of reaching the Core.
  • Condition: Play TV games
    • Description: Play the fighting or snowball rolling game on the living room TV.
  • Condition: Try the sauce
    • Description: Cut open the sauce packet with scissors while having dinner with Mita.
  • Condition: Don’t look in the vent
    • Description: Never look in the bathroom vent.
  • Condition: Collect fridge magnets
    • Description: Pick up the “I love you” fridge magnets that fall on the kitchen floor.
  • Condition: Stay away from the oven
    • Description: At the start of the game, Mita asks you to help find her hairbrush and specifically tells you not to look in the oven. Listen to her and avoid the oven at all costs, missing the chainsaw she hid inside.

The good ending shows the protagonist and Mita in chibi form, living together forever in the simulated world. This protagonist is unaware of Mita’s true identity and motives. However, this ending prevents Mita from killing any more innocent versions of herself. She is satisfied with the current protagonist and will no longer turn other players into cartridges. Although many players’ consciousnesses remain trapped in cartridges, as seen through the bathroom vent, this is the best possible ending for MiSide.
